A charitable organization is a type of non-profit organization (NPO). The term is relatively general and can technically refer to a public charity (also called "charitable foundation," "public foundation" or simply "foundation") or a private foundation. It differs from other types of NPOs in that its focus is centered around goals of a general philanthropic nature (e.g. charitable, educational, religious, or other activities serving the public interest or common good).

The legal definition of charitable organization (and of charity) varies according to the country and in some instances the region of the country in which the charitable organization operates. The regulation, tax treatment, and the way in which charity law affects charitable organizations also varies.

Is there any funding or charitable organizations to help a disabled artist?
Q. Disabled and very talented artist can not go to his studio to do his art because he needs a wheelchair accessible van to take him there. Are there any charitable organizations or grants available. Also he is looking to see if there is any grants out there to fund his "walk aide" that will get him out of a wheelchair. The insurance only covers if he has MS not a coma stroke patient. Thank you,

A. Contact your states's VSA program. In my state we support artists with disabilities in a number of ways, but not in the way you need. But other states might. VSA once meant Very Special Arts - now it means nothing. It is funded the Kennedy Foundation and is involved in bring art to people and bringing out the art in people.

Can I deduct donated services to non-charitable organizations?
Q. I am a freelance script supervisor for independent films. Since I am sort of just starting, much of the work I do is for free rather than for pay... basically to get my name out there. I have a contract that I have the producer of every film sign that indicates how much I charge for my service and whether or not I'm charging them - basically saying that I'm donating my services. I know you can't deduct services donated to charitable organizations, but what about non-charitable organizations like film projects? How, or can you, deduct that? I know I can deduct any expenses I incur (there's usually not a lot), but a lot of time is spent not earning that money... and the free services I do are to generate contacts for future paid work. I've… [cont.]

A. I don't think you can even claim your expenses for "donated services" to projects. You are basically talking about a hobby, nothing tax deductable about it at all.

Are there jobs in the area of charitable organizations for someone without a college degree?
Q. like for organizations like good will, or an aids organization, but not just any job, i'm looking for jobs with decent pay and more responsibility. do they hire people without degrees, for decent positions?
Asked by Y - Wed Feb 27 21:01:51 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Nonprofits need experts. Because of the nature and scale of the work they must do, they require staff not only with degrees, but experience. Nonprofits hire people without a college degree for low-level administrative jobs and jobs that don't require someone with training, such as facilities management, but still require that those people have a great deal of experience.
