Why were the Japanese scatterd across so Many pacific islands during the second world war?
Q. Why was the japanese dug in Most islands in the pacific? Why? Was it there former colonies or somthing? I heard they were mainly in The philipinnes papau new guinea and Japanese islands.
Asked by I Am Responsible for Jonestown - Thu Apr 1 09:21:05 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. At the same time as their attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese made a massive land grab in Southeast Asia, invading Indochina (modern Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos), Burma, Indonesia and New Guinea. These territories, along with their invasion of China, were to gather as much natural resources within their control as possible. Then they pushed out into the Pacific Islands. They hoped to push the defensive perimeter as far away from the home islands as possible. The other hope was that America, suddenly faced with a two-front war (Germany in Europe, Japan in Asia), would settle with Japan in order to focus on Germany. The Japanese felt that grabbing as much land as they could would give them strong grounds for keeping it after any settlement. [cont.]
