new news on immigration crackdown from: r.com/gleaner/20070903/in t/int3.html?
Q. Thousands of illegal immigrants, including West Indians, have been granted a temporary reprieve when a United States federal judge prohibited the Department of Homeland Security from carrying out new rules to crack down on their employers. The ruling in the Federal District Court in San Francisco has dealt a legal setback to a central part of the Bush administration's effort to increase enforcement of the immigration laws. Judge Maxine M. Chesney also ordered the Social Security Administration to suspend a mailing, scheduled to begin Wednesday, of about 140,000 letters to employers advising them that some of their employees' Social Security information did not match the agency's records. The U.S. government said illegal immigrants often… [cont.]

A. That was Friday, right? Yeah, I think it is a wrong decision, but it had potentially high consequences (except against seasonal workers, since every worker would have 90 days to fix the problem AFTER getting the letter, which comes some time after they start...). Courts like time to consider potentially high consequences, and are human too. As in, even Judges take Labor Day weekend vacations.

Has anyone noticed...?
Q. How the news puts out so many bad stories about Obama, but have never said one bad thing about McCain. This has happened several times, but like last night I was expecting them to report what happened to the cars at Obama's rally ( But instead they did a bad story about Wes Clark and how he said "I don t think...getting shot down is a qualification to be president."(McCain) Which I totally agree and don't think what he said was such a big deal. But they don't cover stories like how McCain left his hurt wife for the WEALTHY woman he's with now. ( You might say that's irrelevant, but so was the whole controversy w/ Obama's pastor. and Obama's helping out the people in Jamaica, but they don't report that. ( Why are people trying so… [cont.]

A. People are quicker to point out Obama's flaws because he's already got the odds against him. McCain is your stereotypical president, and his flaws are kind of shrugged off, and not really zeroed in on. Obama is African American, younger, and a far more controversial pick for president.. sooo naturally, they're going to focus on his flaws more than McCain's.

Tony Becca from West Indies had asked: Why did Ishant Sharma shake Symonds hand after the Sydney match?
Q. Jamaica's Tony Becca, one of the Caribbean's top sports writers who has been inducted into the Cricket Hall of Fame in Hartford, Connecticut ( Asked the following question: "Unbelievable As Richie Benaud said at the time, Ponting's response was unbelievable and for the simple reason that if you live by the sword, you should expect to die by the sword. At the end of Australia's innings, Sharma, the 19-year-old pacer who was denied Symonds' wicket at a crucial stage of the game, the young man who thought he had put India in a strong position, went up and shook Symonds' hand, and for a long time I sat before the television wondering why. Was it because the batsman had batted well, had played some glorious strokes and had enjoyed… [cont.]
