What is the difference between normal and non-normal distribution?
Q. What is the difference between normal and non normal distributions. I know normal data have a bell shaped curve, but what about when they don't. Does that mean the data should be transformed?
Asked by iloveakatlanta - Fri Jan 26 17:25:11 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Normal distribution refers to Gaussian distribution. Non-normal would refer to any other type of distribution, such as Bernoulli, binomial, logistic, log-normal. These other forms don't have the bell shape you describe for gaussian distributions.

Is it normal to plant a tree with a wire basket surrounding the root ball?
Q. I had a maple tree that was about 5 years old in my front yard that died, so I dug it out to replace it and found the roots wrapped with metal wire. I can't imagine that being normal and think it may even have caused the tree to die, but I don't know much about trees or plants. Is this normal or totally inexcusable?
Asked by BN - Sat May 10 15:41:09 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many nurseries use a wire basket to keep the root ball intact. I have read many theories about leaving the wire basket on the root ball and the roots will just grow around the wire. I personally do not leave the wire on the root ball when I plant a tree. I believe it can stunt the growth of the tree and maybe even kill the tree in time. I can't say for sure what killed your maple tree but that sure could have been the culprit.

is it normal to start bleeding alittle after only missing two days?
Q. I went on a vacation this past weekend and got thrown off with what days it was and ending up missing two days, in a row of my loestrin 24 birth control pill. It has been two days and this morning I saw that I started bleeding. Is this normal? As today went on, it seems to have stopped after I took the missing pills. Sound normal?
Asked by Robin Fontanez - Wed Jun 2 18:41:58 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's completely normal. Missing days is like telling your body you're about to start to sugar pill week. (The one week at the end of the pack that's usually pink or white that you take while on your period doesn't contain hormones - just sugar. It's supposed to help you stay on track with your schedule.) And catching up with your schedule will get your body back on track. You just need to know that by throwing off your schedule, you've temporarily made a hole in the effectiveness of the birth control pills so you have a higher risk of pregnancy for a while.

What is the definition of a normal teenager?
Q. I want the opinion of what people think normal teenagers do. So what do normal teenagers do? Everyone I know seems to have a Definition although I use the phrase "there is no such thing as normal because everyone is different". I just want the general opinion of what people think is a normal teenager.

A. Normal is a label people try and put on people. Humans like to judge each other and classify behaviour. You can not. Life has not commonality and everyone is different. What one person does, another will not. So normality is purely a personal point of view. Morals, however, are different. Many people have the same morals

Is it normal to continually bleed when you start the pill?
Q. I started taking Yasmin(birth control pill) this month on the first day of my period. I had my period as per normal. And since then I've been bleeding everyday(about a week now since my period has ended), nothing significant, but a noticable amount of blood each day. I know what spotting is, and surely this cant be spotting because spotting would not occur everyday. I take my pill correctly at the same time everyday. I have been on the pill now for around 2 weeks) Please can someone explain if this is normal.

From a normal fish to tank to a salt water aquarium?
Q. Me and my boyfriend currently have a normal tropical tank set up, we put the heater up today. We are planning to buy a pufferfish this friday, we read up that it is essential to keep them in a salt water aquarium? If any of you know if Pufferfish genuinly need to be in salt water please tell me? Also, how do you set up a salt water aquarium from a normal tropical tank? The tank is 100 litre.

A. Although there is freshwater puffer fishes, it's either normally brackish water to saltwater. When you set this up, you need to cycle the tank for 2-4 weeks, meaning you need a hydrometer (Floating is better), you need a good filter, you need circulation of the water, you don't need a protein skimmer, but you can use a surface skimmer instead, you need the ph, ammonia, nitrate test kits, you will need to have hiding places like live rock, or things that these puffers can hide, you will need to understand the meaning of a saltwater aquarium, you can search this through wikipedia or about.com. Search marine aquarium set ups and maintaining marine aquariums. You should use water conditioners. To boost your filtration for faster cycling of the… [cont.]

Q. The boiler was locked out, the pressure was almost nil. I re-pressurised it to 1 bar and there was a green light. But in an hour, the pressure reached to 2.1 bar. Is that normal? On searching web its showing anything between 1 bar and 2.5 bar is normal. It is Range Powermax 155x model.

A. 1 to 1.5 bar is normal but the pressure will increase as the system warms up if its getting to 2.5 it may be that the expansion tank (the red thing ) is in need of recharging Ask the engineer to do this next time you have it serviced, not urgent unless it gets to 3 bar. corgi engineer

What is the normal duration of of coitus between a halthy male and a female?
Q. How long does the coitus last between a healthy male and a female? In other words, what is the normal duration of intercourse excluding foreplay and afterplay. To be more precise, how long does the actual stroking of the penis into vagina lasts in a normal course?
Asked by Sreenath D - Thu Jun 1 11:42:01 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There's really no "normal" time. It depend, on the mood, etc. Recently I've ejaculated in as short a time as two minutes of vigorous thrusting, and as long as an hour or more of slow steady strokes. Which variation we use depends mostly on her desires; some times she wants me to be very aggressive, other times, gentle and tender.

Is it a Catholic priest who has always believed in the power of G-d, but is now faced with other powers? Is it a scientist who think everything can be explained with logic and reason? Is it a magician who has made his/her livelihood out of performing illusions? What is the person's attitude? Did the person think magic was a lie before? How much does a normal leopard gecko cost in ohio?
Q. I live in Ohio near Newark. I don't want to buy one online, but how much would one baby normal leopard gecko cost at petland? Pet supplies plus? And Petco. Also whats the diffrence between the morphs and the normal kinds besides the color?
Asked by Irishdancer - Sat Jul 18 14:15:08 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Currently, you can get a leopard gecko at Petsmart for $19.99 with your Pet Perks card. The difference between the morphs and the normal kinds is just that - the color. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a reptile from a chain store. Not all chain stores are bad. For every bad chain store that I have been to, I have been to an equal number of independent pet shops that have had rude staff and/or dirty cages. Do a bit of research yourself, and find a knowledgeable staff member (be it a chain store or a independent shop) and you will be good to go. Best of luck!

in normal individuals a certain gene is transcribed as two different mRNAs?
Q. In normal individuals a certain gene is transcribed as two different mRNAs. One is 3000 base pairs long, and the other is 3500 base pairs long. Certain mutant individuals produce only the 3000 base pair mRNA. Explain the difference and suggest a specific mutation that could cause this to happen.

A. a deletion is the mutation possibly... deletion of the portion of DNA that codes for those 500 base pairs. It sounds like the mutation would cause no difference in the gene? not sure, but I hope that gets your gears going...
